Tiger Tussle - Mixed Netball!!

FACT: a group of Tigers is called a streak or an ambush but most often Tigers live alone.

REALITY: Thailand Tigers love to streak and it's time for the first Tiger Tussle!! Grrrr.......

Calling all Tigresses,

The BNL season is over and we know you are missing your netty, so we are organising a mixed netball Tiger Tussle. That's right, the tiger males are joining our Streak on-court and are keen to impress us Tigresses with their speed, strength and fighting abilities.

In the wild, both male and female tigers will fight each other if necessary to defend, expand or acquire new territory.

On the netball court, mixed streaks will be formed and a battle for the territory will ensue.

When: Monday 30th April, 6.45pm for 7pm start
Where: NIST (Suk Soi 15), drinks after with details to follow
(Tuesday is a public holiday to allow all Tigers time to lick their wounds before resuming their mundane hunting tasks on Wednesday)
Cost: 100 baht (for court hire)
RSVP: Friday April 27th to Joey (joeykookie@hotmail.com) or reply to the event invite on facebook
If you can't make this game but would be interested in playing in future games then please RSVP via email and let us know (if this game is a success with good turnout then future tussles will follow)
Rules: This is the first time that some of the Tiger males have ventured into the netball jungle. All game rules for mixed netball will be explained on the night.

Get ready to tussle......

PHUKET NETBALL TOUR / TIGERS HIT KSR

The Phuket Bees flew into Bangkok in the early hours of a Saturday morning to join two Tigers teams for a tournament.
In game 1, Tigers 2 vs Phuket, excellent shooting from Joey and Nuch saw the Tigers take an early lead. The Phuket girls fought hard and it was a tough match, but they could not match the Tigers defense, Caroline and Hinda, who kept them scoreless in the last quarter. A great win to Tigers 2 to commence the day.

Tigers 1 then took the court in the second match against Phuket. Great shooting from our girls kept the game close, however after a tight battle, Phuket came out victors. It was a great effort from the Tigers 1 team with with all players performing well and demonstrating good team skills.
In a friendly match, the two Tigers team then met on court for game 3. Great shooting again from Joey and Nuch saw Tigers 2 take out a comfortable win.

After refueling with fruit and gatorade, Tigers 2 and Phuket met to battle it out in the final. Phuket put up a valiant fight but were no match for Tigers 2's superior fitness and ball skills. Congratulations to Tigers 2 - victors of the day. Well done!!

A huge thank you to Joey for organising the tournament so well.

The final scores for the games were:
Tigers 2 (26) def. Phuket Bees (10)
Phuket Bees (18) def. Tigers 1 (10)
Tigers 2 (28) def Tigers 1 (3)
FINAL: Tigers 2 (16) def. Phuket Bees (8)

What happens when you mix a tiger, st patty's day, rehydrating ales, a tuktuk, khao san road and glitter............... turns out a lot of fun!!!

After such a successful day, the Tigers ladies regrouped that evening for warm up St Patty's Day drinks at Lub'd Bangkok. After a few drinks to 'rehydrate' after a tough day on court, the ladies were in fine form and ventured to Khao San Road to join the Southerners KSR Backpackers' Tour. The Tiger ladies certainly looked the part in their absolute backpacker best and were easily identifiable, wearing "same same" green tiger singlets. When a pot of glitter appeared, the night hit new highs with many were caught unawares as they received this 'beautification'! Whilst the ending of the evening may be a little hazy for some, loads of fun was had and some of life's bigger questions were answered (for example, how many Tigers can you fit into a tuk-tuk??). In the aftermath, as remnants of glitter continue to appear despite frustrating desperate attempts to cleanse,  there is one Irish Tiger that will go hungry on Thursday after failing to come home with her hat and win the bet!!

A huge thank you to Clare Bell for coordinating the evenings activities and organising the outfits.

AFL Grand Final Day 2009

After loads of hard work & preparation - well done Marta, Libby, Andy, Yoda & everyone else who contributed, we had a fantastic day celebrating the AFL Grand Final 2009 - Saints vs. Cats - at the Australian Pub & BBQ on Sukhumvit Soi 11. The bravest volunteers arrived at 7am to set up, which was hard work but lots of fun.

Certain volunteers refused to put up any decorations for the Cats.....

The staff were great!

The game was really tense!

But you didn't have to be a winner to be a grinner.

Everyone had a blast!

Tigers Netball do World Environment Day

Lured by the tantalising promise of a sausage sizzle & beers, some of the girls from Thailand Tigers Netball made their way to Samut Prakan on the first Sunday in June to take part in a mangrove tree planting Family Fun Day, organized by Plant-A-Tree-Today to commemorate World Environment Day. “We just want to give something back, after taking so much,” quipped Cookie Chaos.

Dressed in our funky mud-protection ninja boots and armed with the mangrove saplings we were intent to plant, we made our way out to the mangroves through knee-deep (well almost knee-deep, certainly shin-high) gloopy mud and marauding mosquitoes. The tree planting was a bit of hard, dirty work, but very rewarding.
Cookie Chaos managed to suppress the strongest of urges to start a mud-slinging fight, for which we were all very grateful. Planting done, we got down to the serious business of the day, which was relaxing in the shade, while drinking beer and consuming delightful sausages.
We’re pleased to report that PATT’s Family Fun Day managed to plant 220 mangroves, each of which will remove around 500kgs of carbon from the atmosphere over the next 30-40 years. PATT would like to thank the sponsors of the day: Pepsi, OrientSkys & Slim Jims (great snags Slim Jim!), as well as their volunteer helpers, particularly Tigers Netball’s own Claire (aka Riser). For more info on PATT or to offset the carbon for your next flight home go to http://www.plant-a-tree-today.org/

Court Capri gets caliente!

All Tigresses, Tigers and their friends are invited to heat up Lennie and Anna's new place in Thong Lor this Saturday, 30th August.

Antics begin at 8pm - BYO drinks. Call Anna on 0850632442 for directions. See you there!

Khao Yai mai?

Due to less-than-desirable weather conditions and a general aversion to monotony, the Tigers girls have decided that Khao Yai would be a better choice than Samet for our girls' weekend on 5th-7th September.

Anna is organising a van and accommodation for a weekend of indulgence, adventure and debauchery for all the interested ladies. Please let Anna know as soon as possible if you would like to join the Khao Yai bandwagon - 0850632442 or thailandtigersnetball@gmail.com.

For those of you new to Bangkok (or those of you who are just hermits), Khao Yai is an awesome national park only about 2 hours north east of Bangkok. There are loads of cool things to see and do, including mountain biking, rock climbing, waterfalls, elephants and quad biking. We will be staying at a nice place (TBA) with a pool and hopefully a spa on-site!

Who are you to resist?!

Adieu, Farewell and Goodnight!

As promised, the Twaiters, Puddles, Vron and Wifey were sent off with a bang and a splash on Saturday night - for those who can't remember, the night featured norg wars, gumboots in the pool and many a toast to those departing.

Thailand Tigers Netball would like to send a big farewell and good luck to Liv, Chris, Veronica, Robson and Jules. We wish you all the best for your new adventures abroad and at home!

Surprise!

Triumphant in her trickery, Joey arrived with Vron and U-Peg in tow at Spring yesterday looking very relieved as the Tigresses surprised Vron with her Bangkok baby shower. Dressed in a gorgeous grey GAP hoodie, Vron held back the tears while unwrapping many presents organised by Treasurer Libby for each section of her baby's day. The stylish presents included a handmade baby sling and an individualised new Tigers membership bodysuit for the little girl to strut around Tassie in.

The TTN commitee want to thank everyone for making the day extremely special for Vron and we wish her all the best for her new adventure. We will miss you Vron!
